The Danish U17 national team players’ individual UEM started today. All in all, an excellent day for the Danish talents, who all went on to tomorrow’s matches. Get an overview of the Danish performances here.

The Danish players did a good job in today’s matches, says U17 national coach Frank Larsen, who especially wants to highlight Jonathan Melgaard and Maria Højlund Tommerup, who win a tough match.

– Jonathan and Maria win a really nice mixed double today. They meet a really good couple who win the first set, which Jonathan and Maria handle really well. Even though they were nervous, they stick to the plan we had set and end up winning the match, which was really nicely done by them. I would think that was the highlight of the day, the national coach explains.

Three out of three matches, so many matches Kajsa Van Dalm won on the first day at the individual U17 EC.

In women’s singles, Kajsa Van Dalm had to embark on a true drama before securing further advancement in the individual UEM tournament. The women’s singles player faced Englishman Dennis Chole, who won the first set 19-21.

Fortunately, Kajsa managed to keep a cool head at the score 18-18 in the second set and snatched 3 points in a row before the match had to go out in the third and decisive set. In the third set, it was a convincing Kajsa who won 21-4.

– It was a tough match for Kajsa today. It’s really nice that she wins the second set. I’m sure she was nervous, but it was as if she got more calm in the third set, says Frank Larsen.

Earlier in the day, Kajsa had in mixed doubles with partner, Calvin Lundsgaard also played on, when they defeated Norwegian Sander Oesthassel and Kristine Oedegaardstuen won 21-11, 21-11.

The two players did not have much time to rejoice over the victory, as they had to play another mixed double. A match they luckily also win after a close second set.

On the first day, William Bøgebjerg, Mads Emil Monke, Lærke Thomsen, Mike Vestergaard / Sofie Røjkjær and Jonathan Melgaard / Maria Højlund Tommerup also managed to play further in the tournament.

Tomorrow awaits a number of exciting showdowns, says Frank Larsen, who is especially looking forward to Sarah Skriver’s match.

– Early tomorrow, Sarah Skriver will meet England’s second best women singles player, Tashvi Parab. I think it will be a good and exciting match that can go both ways. We know the Englishman and know that she is a skilled player, so it will be an interesting match to follow, says Frank Larsen.

It’s not just Sarah Skriver who’s going to play a tough game tomorrow. It will be more difficult matches across the board tomorrow, says Frank Larsen.

In general, it applies to the whole team that we have to find another gear tomorrow. We have to prepare properly and then we have to give it max gas.

Tomorrow, another badminton day awaits at UEM in Slovenia, where a large group of Danes are on the program, and you can follow on all matches on livestream equally.
