Four botanicals (juniper, lemon, dill and basil) for the distillate created by Alberto Borin and Claudia Gamberucci, descendant of the Lafferty family and is gin Upperhand.

Passione gin upperhand

Italian taste on the one hand, the Irish art of distillation on the other. The gin Upperhand born from the union of the passions of the Venetian Alberto Borin – a past as a judo champion, winner of national and international titles – and his wife Claudia Gamberucci, descendant of the historic Lafferty family, originally from the North West of Ireland, who in the early twentieth century he went to seek his fortune in Scotland creating a reputation in the field of distillation. Expression of luxury in the bottle, also thanks to the elegant Art Nouveau label, Upperhand is an artisanal premium dry gin, distilled in County Tipperary and made with four botanicals: lemon, basil, dill and of course juniper.

It is no coincidence: it is a mix of the best ingredients from the countries of origin of the two founders of the brand. At its base there are in fact selected Italian and Irish botanicals, such as Tuscan juniper berries, Ligurian basil, Sicilian lemon peels and Irish dill, which form a rich bouquet. Transparent and crystalline, it is in fact characterized by the intense aroma of juniper, accompanied by citrus notes and a finish in which hints of basil and dill emerge.

Perfectly balanced, Upperhand (alc 40% by vol) is a very versatile gin, ideal for blending, both for original reinterpretations of classics and for new creations. At a time when most producers boast of using an immeasurable amount of bizarre botanicals, Upperhand impresses on the other hand precisely for its easy drinking and genuineness.

A nice revenge – as the name of the product indicates – for the former judo champion Alberto and his wife Claudia, who together decided to get the upper hand, that is to take over the adversities of life and embark on an adventure of their own. As mentioned, an added value of Upperhand is precisely in the turquoise-toned bottle that bears the number XI, very dear to the founder of the brand, which in the tarot is the symbol of strength and power acquired through merit and value, and symbolized by a woman who tames (and dominates) a lion, an image punctually depicted on the bottle.

Welcome drink

Recently, Upperhand signed the welcome drink and cocktails in the events, three in Versilia and one in Venice, organized by Salamone Associetes LLC in conjunction with Andrea Bocelli’s private concert in Alpemare. During a series of appointments between “Noble beaches” of Versilia and the Venice Lagoon, as technical sponsor, gin was used from time to time to make welcome drinks and to toast after Bocelli’s performance.

Gin Upperhand overlooking the Lagoon

Leaving Tuscany, even at the prestigious Cipriani Belmond in Venice, the four botanicals of Upperhand were the protagonists of the cocktails to be sipped with a view of the Lagoon. For the distillate created by Claudia Gamberucci and Alberto Borin, the partnership with the world of music has a particular meaning: “My mom Kate Lafferty was an opera singer – says Claudia – and later he taught at the ‘Cherubini’ Conservatory in Florence. Opera has always been part of our family history, and this collaboration makes us proud because it writes a new chapter in the marriage between music and mixology “.
