Former player and coach Joan Martínez Vilaseca dies at the age of 78

Journalist Miguel Rico first, on his Twitter account, and then FC Barcelona reported this Sunday at noon the death of Joan Martínez Vilaseca from Manresa, a former Espanyol player in the highest category and later known for his work in the training football of FC Barcelona, ​​where he worked with important players. Martínez Vilaseca, who died at the age of 78, had trained in his hometown, in the lower categories of Gimnàstic and CE Manresa.

In his time as a professional player, Martínez Vilaseca, who played on the left wing, played eight seasons in the First and one in the Second with Espanyol, with which he scored eleven goals. After this stage, he signed for Llevant, with whom he played in Segona, and ended his journey in L’Hospitalet and Europe. As a coach he also started working at the white-and-blue club, but in 1979 he became part of Barça’s youth football team, where he remained until 2008. For three seasons, between 1984 and In 1987, he led Barça B, in the Second Division, and also held the position of director of Barcelona’s training football.

A very kind person, Martínez Vilaseca left Barça and went to work with Josep Maria Minguella as a talent scout. He left a stage in which he was responsible for signings such as Guillermo Amor, Iván de la Peña, Luis García, Mikel Arteta, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Carles Puyol, Sergio García, Cesc Fàbregas and Bojan Krkic. Until Tuesday at ten in the morning, his remains are in the Funeral Home of the Cortes de Barcelona where, at that time, a funeral ceremony will be held.
