First gold medalist in judo for Venezuela dies at Pan American Games

Valencia.- In the morning hours of this Tuesday, September 14, Professor Nayleth Allison Henry Joseph, the first judoka to win a gold medal for Venezuela in the Pan American Games, died in Carabobo state.

The information was made known by sports teachers and fans of the discipline through social networks. It was also confirmed by the Venezuelan Federation of Judo, from where they lamented the physical departure of the judoka, whom they described as a glory of Venezuelan judo.

Sources linked to the sport indicated that the gold medalist, who lived in the Naguanagua municipality, died as a result of colon cancer, however this information has not been confirmed by relatives.

Allison Henry, as she is known in the sports world, won two medals at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas and five medals at the Judo Championship, between 1982 and 1990.

“Today we have lost a great sporting glory from Carabobo, the judoka Alison Henry, who represented us on many occasions and left our state on high. Peace your soul. I regret with great pain the departure of this great carabobeña, the teacher, the athlete, my sensei, the friend Alison Henry. May God have her in his glory. Thank you my sensei for your friendship ”, expressed Mr. Arturo Amador through his Twitter account.

“With much regret we report the death of the Venezuelan judoka and the world Alison Henry ”, wrote in his networks the sports teacher, specialist in boxing, Eduardo Flores Padrón.

In 2014 the Pan American champion was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of the University of Carabobo, recognition that, in accordance with the regulations approved by the house of study, highlights her career as an athlete and her excellent behavior as a citizen.
