In an interview with Basketball, the federal review, Evan Fournier delivers his feelings on the France team, and no doubt: he pegged it to the body. Here are three excerpts.
“We want to win titles. We had a great competition but we did not end up with a defeat. And I am looking for a title. Whether in the NBA or in the French team. You play to live moments like this. You want to know that you are on the roof of the world or the roof of Europe and to know that no one has beaten you. You celebrate first, not second. That’s how I see things (…) And I hope that with our campaign we start to change things. Stop saying Americans are untouchable. Stop putting them on a pedestal. That we see ourselves winner and future champion. It starts with the mind and then things materialize. ”
“I don’t know why we are only talking about Paris 2024. Well, yes, I know. But that’s three years from now. And there are other things to do first. The Eurobasket, the World Cup are very good competitions (…) If we want to be champion in 2024, it is not by doing a preparation of one month in three years that we will get there. ”
“I say it everywhere. The summer competitions are one of the highlights of my career. You live strong and intense moments, you play moments under pressure. It’s a special feeling that I find every summer since I was 15 years old. As an athlete, you like to live these moments. So the math is simple. Everyone has their reasons for spending their summers with the French team. Personally, it’s competition. And the moments we live are only felt in the France team. Not in the NBA. ”
