England: Manchester City withdraws all commercial products mentioning Benjamin Mendy

If you want to order a Manchester City shirt online with Benjamin Mendy’s name flocked to the back, you can opt out. The English club withdrew this Tuesday from its online store, all products mentioning the French player world champion. The latter is accused of four rapes and one sexual assault. The club, finalist of the last Champions League, has already suspended the player until further notice. But he did not officially remove him from his squad. While he has disappeared from the online store, the former AS Monaco player still appears on the club’s official website, posing alongside Aymeric Laporte.

The information on the disappearance of the player from all merchandising was revealed on Tuesday by the English daily The Telegraph which tried to obtain an explanation from the club. But this one did not follow up.

The former OM and Monaco player is suspected by British justice of having committed four rapes, including three on the same woman, and a sexual assault between October 2020 and August 2021. One of the two alleged victims of rape is 17 years old.

Accused of very serious facts, Benjamin Mendy is in detention at least until November 15. It is on this date that he will appear again for a pre-trial hearing scheduled for January 24, 2022. The 2018 world champion risks a very heavy sentence.
