Kostic goal is not enough – Frankfurt conceded a goal shortly before the end

Stand: 6:00 p.m.

Eintracht Frankfurt is still waiting for the first win of the season. Even in the majority did not succeed against VfB Stuttgart. Although Kostic, who had long fallen out of favor because of a training strike, was able to bring Hessen into the lead. But in the end, the Hessians simply had bad luck.

Omar Marmoush spoiled a fairytale return for the pardoned rebel Filip Kostic at Eintracht Frankfurt. The loan from VfL Wolfsburg gave VfB Stuttgart an important point on Sunday with its late equalization in the 88th minute to 1: 1 (0: 0) and wrested the Hessians’ first win of the season in the Bundesliga. Previously, Kostic (80th) had given the hosts the lead in front of 25,000 fans in the sold-out Frankfurt arena.

Two weeks after his strike action, the Serbian international returned to the Eintracht squad. Kostic initially only sat on the bench – but then after an hour, to the applause of the audience, he made his 100th Bundesliga appearance for the Hessians and crowned it with his goal. But there was no happy ending because Marmoush scored outnumbered for VfB. Waldemar Anton saw the red card in the 82nd minute because of an emergency brake.

In the storm of harmony, new signing Sam Lammers celebrated his Bundesliga debut, but could only set a few accents and miserably missed the greatest chance for the home side in the first half. He later had to make way for Rafael Borré, who only hit the crossbar in stoppage time.

VfB Stuttgart was waiting for a counterattack

The Frankfurter started energetically and could have taken the lead in the second minute. Jens Petter Hauge just missed the Stuttgart goal with his shot. The Swabians, who recently suffered two defeats, first tried to control the ball. The first opportunity arose after 17 minutes for Marmoush, who was preferred by coach Pellegrino Matarazzo in the storm over Hamadi Al Ghaddioui. The loan from league rivals VfL Wolfsburg failed after a nice solo from a tight angle to Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Frankfurt had field advantages, but the Stuttgart lurking on the counterattack had better chances. Roberto Massimo (34.) also failed because of Trapp. The Hessians tried too often through the middle and kept getting stuck on the VfB defense that was by no means solid. Two shots by Daichi Kamada were the only offensive yield, but did not pose any problems for VfB keeper Florian Müller.

After the change, Marmoush set the first sign again – but his shot only went to the side netting. But then Kostic came and immediately revived the Eintracht game. Frankfurt was now on the trigger and twice very close to the lead. First Lammers failed from close range to Müller, then Martin Hinteregger had bad luck with a header on the crossbar.

20 minutes before the end, Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner brought Colombia’s international striker Borré, who had only returned from his international trip on late Friday evening, for Lammers. VfB was now under a lot of pressure, but in the end did not take a point undeservedly.
