Dressage rider Isabell Werth: Slow farewell to the icon – sport

Twelve Olympic medals, successfully in the saddle for 33 years: But now Isabell Werth is talking about the approaching resignation. Her successor on the throne has already been found – and is in no way inferior to her in perfection.

At the most important horse show in the world, the CHIO in Aachen this week, all three can put their hooves up: Dalera, Weihegold and Bella Rose, the four-legged dressage queens of recent years. The first two are on vacation. And Bella Rose, who was supposed to be officially retired from sport in the Aachen Soers, has to recover from a colic operation. But her riders, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Isabell Werth, the two women who have shaped the dressage sport in the last two years, continue to fight, together and against each other, with younger and less known horses.
