Disappointing ÖFB team also goes swimming against Scotland

Austria’s national team also loses against Scotland in the World Cup qualification on matchday six and slides into a veritable crisis.

After a good start to the game and some useful offensive scenes, the Austrians became more and more harmless in the course of the first section. That was of course also due to the defensive of the Scots, which sorted itself out better.

The guests relied on the counterattack, after half an hour they took the lead with a penalty. As a result, the home side didn’t have a lot of ideas, but they could also have received a penalty shortly before the break.

In a somewhat muddled second half, Austria did not have many clear chances because Scotland did not owe anything defensively with the 1-0 in the back. In the last 20 minutes the Bravehearts even had a good chance of scoring a second goal through a counterattack.

The Austrians’ offensive game seemed too fragmented and cumbersome, and a flank-heavy tactic against tall Scotland is at least questionable.

It should not be forgotten, however, that the Austrians should have received a penalty at the end of the first half, which the referee Kabakov, who was generally not very confident, had denied them.

With the away three, Scotland moved to 2nd place in the group, with Austria already four points behind in 4th place.
