Denver Nuggets and Aaron Gordon agree to an early contract extension

The Denver Nuggets have reached an early contract extension with Aaron Gordon. This means that the nuggets will tie the forward to the team until 2026 and prevent it from being launched on the free market in the coming summer.

Gordon’s agent Calvin Andrews of Klutch Sports confirmed the new deal to the company The Athletic and ESPN. The new four-year contract is therefore worth 92 million dollars, including a player option for the last year of the contract (2025/26). According to Bobby Marks (ESPN) add $ 4 million in potential bonuses to the base salary of $ 88 million.

The nuggets only secured the services of the almost 26-year-old in March via trade, but Denver sent Gary Harris, RJ Hampton and a 2025 first-round pick to the Orlando Magic. Gordon was supposed to be the final piece of the puzzle to a championship, but that dream was ruined by the injury of Jamal Murray.

Nevertheless, the athletic freak knew how to convince with his versatile defense, even if he hardly played off offensively in the playoffs (11.1 points and 5.4 rebounds). Already in August it was heard that the franchise from Mile High City would like to extend Gordon’s contract, which will expire in 2022, ahead of time.

He is under contract for 16.4 million next season, after which his average annual salary increases to around 22 million dollars. The Nuggets have thus tied their core around MVP Nikola Jokic (contract until 2023), Murray (contract until 2025) and Gordon to the team on a long-term basis. Michael Porter Jr. can also sign a contract extension this offseason.
