Caleb Martin lands a two-way contract in Miami | NBA

In early August, the Hornets decided to part ways with winger Caleb Martin, who had a one-year contract left (not guaranteed). A little over a month later, here he gets a « two-way contract » in Miami, for the 2021/22 season, as reported by The Athletic.

The twin of Cody Martin will therefore have to find a place in the league, on the side of the Heat, behind Jimmy Butler, Duncan Robinson, PJ Tucker or even KZ Okpala, on the Florida wing. The 25-year-old’s role in Erik Spoelstra’s rotation will therefore undoubtedly be much smaller than in Charlotte.

Because in two years with the Hornets, and despite low individual stats (5.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 average, in 16 minutes, only 39% on shots and 32% at 3-points), Caleb Martin s’ was effectively imposed as a real rotation on post 3. Notably last season, in relay from Gordon Hayward.

Two-way contract : designed to create a bridge between the NBA and the G-League, this type of contract allows each franchise to enlist the services of one or two additional players, to make them mainly evolve in their franchise of affiliated development league , but also up to 45 days in the NBA. Since 2021, that 45-day limit has turned into a limit of 50 appearances on the scoresheet. After this limit, the franchise will then have to leave its player in the G-League or offer him a real NBA contract.
