Bundesliga: Austria writes in full at LASK for the first time

Austria could have closed the bag in the early stages when some top-class opportunities were left behind. Marco Djuricin ran up to Alexander Schlager alone, but pushed the ball into the arms of the LASK goalie (3rd). A few seconds later, Djuricin rolled the ball from a good position next to the goal.

In the seventh minute, a shot by Aleksandar Jukic was blocked by the LASK defense. After the corner that followed, Schlager fended off a shot from Christian Schoissengeyr, and Djuricin pushed the ball over the crossbar.

LASK only finds stability late

After that, the home side’s newly formed defense was able to stabilize, and before the break, Austria was only halfway dangerous when Lukas Mühl (31st) and Johannes Handl (45th) had shots tamed by Schlager. But LASK was also little to see on the offensive – a flick from Hong Hyun Seok, defused by Austria’s goalkeeper Patrick Pentz, and a header from Thomas Goiginger next to the goal (40th) remained the highest of emotions for the time being.

After the break, the game was initially dominated by LASK, but the Upper Austrians’ chances were still in short supply. In the finish, Austria became more dangerous again. Ohio screwed up a top chance with a bad ball take-off (73.), Schlager fended off a ball from Muharem Huskovic for a corner (75.).

VAR turns on several times

The LASK defended the subsequent corner so badly that Martel was able to shoot in from the fiver. The ball had jumped to the German’s arm in this action, but the video referee decided not to cancel the hit. Austria almost made it 2-0 in the 89th minute, but Ohio cheered too early, according to VAR, he was sidelined. For this, the attacker had to push in after optimal Huskovic preparatory work in the 95th minute only to the final score.

Before that, LASK hadn’t thought of anything with the exception of a miss by Goiginger (92nd). Austria drove the first league victory over the Linz team after eleven unsuccessful attempts. LASK, in turn, has been waiting for a home win since April and screwed up the dress rehearsal for the away match in the Conference League on Thursday against HJK Helsinki.
