In turn, the fastest in the MTB distance were – Kristers Kovgers and Lelde Ardava, while in the ambitious national distance – the first places were won by Dāvis Gludavs, as well as Madara Lazda.
The trip of the Latvian Cyclists’ Unit, which is the largest cycling festival in the whole Baltics, took place in a new place this year – in Krimulda. This is because the road repairs have affected the already usual Turaida and Sigulda mountains. The new venue was very spacious and easily accessible. During the day, Krimulda was filled with lovers of active recreation from all over Latvia and the surrounding countries.
Traditionally, the most ambitious was the start of a popular journey. The participants of this trip, who were divided into four streams, were addressed before the start and good luck by the Director of the Emergency Medical Service Liene Cipule. The organizers had prepared a new 40-kilometer distance for the participants of the popular trip, which led through Ragana, Loja and Sēja.
Not only the fastest, but also the most stylish participants, as well as the largest groups were determined here. The most respected participant of the years was especially welcomed. This award was given to the 90-year-old Edgars Račis, who found the strength to cover several tens of kilometers home after the finish.
Two students of Murjāņi Sports Gymnasium were the fastest at the finish. The first is Dāvis Gludavs (“MSĢ / RK Liepāja”), but the second is Ģirts Harkins (“MSĢ / VeloLifestyle Smiltene BJSS”). The best three was concluded by Ģirts Cirvelis, a representative of the Roadex unit. The leaders spent 56 minutes and 2 seconds in the distance. The first place in the ladies’ competition was Madara Lazda, followed by Sindija Skangale and Tīna Ratniece. The award for the largest team was received by “Sadales tīkls”, which was represented by 135 participants in the unit trip.
Exciting events took place on the 108-kilometer-long sports highway ride. In the distance, the athletes went to Limbaži, where the cyclists were greeted by an orchestra and local fans. It was in Limbaži that the central blow of the day with all the favorites, including Emils Liepiņš, took place. Later, four athletes escaped from the large group of ten riders – Emīls Liepiņš, Māris Bogdanovičs, Agris Vindecs and Darjus Dzervus. Shortly before the finish, the quartet was reached. Everything decided in the finale of the finish.
The fastest in it was “Dobele Mill / FeelFree” cyclist Māris Bogdanovičs. Second place went to Lithuanian Dzervus, but the trio was closed by Andžs Flaksis from “DTG – MySport”. The leaders spent 2 hours 21 minutes and 59 seconds on the track. Bogdanovich’s teammate Madara Aboma won for the women. Second place went to Santa Sanya Andrijanova, but the trio was finished by Zane Kalverša-Ķenģe (both “Latvian Cycling girls”).
The MTB ride took place on a new and exciting track, reaching a length of 35 kilometers. Kristers Kovgers (01:10:15), the representative of “Dako – Ziemeļvidzeme”, won the laurels in the men’s competition. Second in the finish Sandijs Kļaviņš (+00: 00: 29). Atis Paksis (“VeloExpress Scott”) climbed to the lowest step of the podium, which was separated from the winner by 33 seconds. The fastest Lelde Ardava for women (“LMT”). Second place went to Renāte Rodionova (“Ādaži velo”), but the trio was closed by MTB Garkalne representative Zane Ķelpe.
