Azerbaijani athletes arrive in Kazan to participate in the CIS Games

Participants in the CIS Games begin to arrive in the capital of Tatarstan.

The first delegation of the Azerbaijani national team was received at the Kazan airport, reports AZERTAC.

The hosts warmly welcomed the delegates and wished them success in the competitions.

The competition is expected to bring together nearly two thousand competitors from ten CIS countries. Athletes will be between 14 and 23 years old. The Games will be held in 16 sports, with 182 medal events scheduled among athletes. More than 400 judges and referees, as well as more than a thousand volunteers, will participate in the competition.

Azerbaijan will be represented by 118 athletes. Azerbaijan will be represented in badminton (eight), 3X3 basketball (four), boxing (nine), judo (16), futsal (13), table tennis (eight), standing shot (three), karate (20), Belt wrestling (four), kuresh (five), women’s wrestling (six), sambo (seven), wrestling (ten), Greco-Roman wrestling (nine) and Thai boxing (six).

The first CIS Games will begin in Kazan on September 4 and continue until September 11. 1,640 competitors participated in the Games, of which 1,172 (ages 14-23) came from 9 CIS countries.
