Antigone of associations in Montpellier, “we are happy to finally see each other in the flesh”

Unmissable event to find an activity, the Frequently Asked Associations was back in person in the Antigone district Montpellier. It took place digitally last year, due to the health crisis. Antigone therefore once again welcomed the stands of sports, cultural, solidarity and mutual aid associations, among others, with great joy for the families and members of the clubs who did everything to convince passers-by to join their associations. Dance, yoga, hand, book club, theater, handisport, there was something for everyone, young and old in an obviously particular health context. the sanitary pass was mandatory to be able to access the stands.

Activities chosen according to the health crisis

Cécile came with her 11-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son, the choice was made based on potential future restrictions, “especially for my son because he did two years of judo and he practically did not play his sport, so this year we take an outdoor activity, football. We are not going to take a risk because he was very frustrated last year“.

A frustration shared by the clubss, happy to find potential members in the flesh after months of training on zoom and sometimes outdoors as explained by Lucas, from the club of Taekwando Sport Montpellier, “we love the association fair, we can do small demonstrations to make people want, meet them and give them much more precise information than through a computer. We are happy to see them in real life especially!“.

A fair for associations (finally) face-to-face

For the American football club, this is the best way to attract new people, “it’s easier to convince in person than on the internet, especially for a sport that is not well known like ours“said Orso Leparc, coach of the Hurricanes. With his teammates, he had taken care of the outfit, shirts, caps and balls in the same color. A club which can however boast of having players in the French team.

An Olympic effect for volleyball

Unlike volleyball which benefits from an Olympic effect, with the gold medal won at the Tokyo Olympic Games by the French team last August. The Montpellier volleyball club, which still depends on the MUC for amateurs, hopes to be able to respond to all requests, “we have to ride the wave, enthuses Christophe Patry, the father of the French international, Jean Patry who plays in Italy after spending all his formative years in Montpellier, “Usually, we hardly accommodate 20 kids on the first day, last Monday, there were 60 children. It is clear that we have more visits, people who want to try themselves because when we see the France team playing, we have the impression that it is easy. So you have to take advantage of the wave“.
