A great Carlota Ciganda shares the lead at the Portland Classic

Carlota Ciganda overcame an early double bogey to sign a 68-shot card and lead the Cambia Portland Classic after the dispute on the first day.

The Spaniard, the only member of the European Solheim Cup team on the course, started the day with the handicap of cold temperatures at the Oregon Golf Club. “This morning, in some shots, the ball flew 10 to 12 meters less, at least for me on the field“, said Ciganda.

“I was like, ‘I need to adjust this on the golf course because it’s so cold.’ Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh also shot a 68 in the morning, and Thailand’s Pajaree Anannarukarn matched them for the afternoon lead.. Anannarukarn won his first LPGA Tour title in Northern Ireland last month.

Ciganda birdied two of his first four holes, then hit back with the double bogey at par 4 14.

The Spaniard took it easy last week after going 1-2 at Inverness in the Solheim Cup. “To be honest I was pretty tired“, said Ciganda.

“Last week, I went back to Phoenix, rest. I’m pretty good at it, so it was nice to just chill out for a few days. And then I only played here on Tuesday, not pro-am, so I think it was good to have the day off yesterday too. There is no golf on the course. If I feel well. I try to take advantage of that momentum from Solheim and have it here, make good shots and do my best. ”

Yealimi Noh was the only one of the five US Solheim Cup players to break the pair, with 71 strokes. Jennifer Kupcho signed 73, Mina Harigae 75, 2014 winner Austin Ernst 76 and Brittany Altomare 78.
