JoJo Siwa said her previous dance experience was “really different” from what she will be doing on “Dancing with the Stars”.

Siwa told Us Weekly and other publications on Wednesday that her partner on the show texted her that while preparing for the upcoming 30th season of “DWTS” she shouldn’t get infected by her previous dance experience because “it’s completely different from anything you’ve ever done “.

“I think the best analogy I could think of was like a soccer player trying to play baseball or soccer or basketball,” Siwa said. “It’s really different. They’re different muscles, they’re different styles. “

At the same time, Siwa admitted that she might have a slight advantage over her “DWTS” co-stars with the “ability to grasp dance terms and movements faster” than people with less experience.

‘DWTS’ is not the first time Siwa has taken part in a dancing reality TV show

Siwa and her mother Jessalynn were previously seen in two seasons of “Dance Moms” between 2015 and 2016, and in 2013 they finished fifth in the second season of the spin-off “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition”.

“DWTS” usually shows ballroom dancing, while Siwa fans are more used to it to see her dance to energetic pop numbers.

Siwa’s “DWTS” star, former Broadway actress Amanda Kloots, repeated Siwa in a separate chat with Us Weekly where Kloots said she feels like she is “throwing me in a new boat here,” even though some fans thought she could be a step ahead of her competition.

“Ballroom dancing and Broadway dancing – the Broadway dance I used to do – are honestly like English and Japanese. I’m learning a whole new language, ”she told the publication. “I have to throw everything I know out the window and it’s like starting from day one. I think the only thing similar is the grueling rehearsals, the blisters, the sore muscles, the sore muscles and the will to learn and just do better.

Kloots also stated that she has no experience working with other people in dance numbers on Broadway.

“This whole of being held by a man, being led by a man, is completely different. [It’s] a whole new world, ”she added.

Amanda Kloots also addressed criticism of her dancing background.

While Siwa and Kloots are not the first “DWTS” participants to appear on the show with dance experience, previous participants have suggested that their competitors have an advantage over them with dance skills.

Rapper Nelly, who took third place on season 29 of the popular ABC show, previously said Entertainment Tonight in November 2020 that he would not have agreed to join the cast of “DWTS” if he had known that he would compete against people with more dance education.

“Because you don’t fight it,” he said. “Why should I enter a boxing match with someone who has been boxing since they were 12 years old? Why should I play basketball with someone who played in college?

Former “Bachelorette” star Kaitlyn Bristowe won the 29th season of “DWTS”. Bristowe is a trained ballet dancer and also has some tap dance experience, but called the show’s ballroom dancing “just an entirely different beast”.
