Meeus rides his first big round. He already impressed in a few sprints this year and that is also the intention in this Vuelta a España.
But in the first bunch sprint it immediately went wrong. At 4.2 km from the end there was a massive crash in the middle of the peloton, Meeus was there together with teammate Gamper.
“The damage is not too bad,” he told the Eurosport camera. “It can be better, but also worse after such a crash. We rode well together with the team, towards the sprint. Suddenly there was a lot of braking in front of me and then we fell with a number of guys.”
“That is quite frustrating, because you wait all day for the final sprint and then you are on the ground a few kilometers before the finish. All in all it’s not that bad. Hopefully there will be more opportunities in this Vuelta.”
