Yellow Tigers undergo law of the strongest against top country Serbia | European Volleyball Championship

With Serbia, the Yellow Tigers faced the current European and world champions and the third of the Olympic Games. A heavy customer for the national volleyball women. Still, the Tigers hadn’t come to Serbia just to be led to the slaughter.

The Belgians did well with the Serbs. Thanks in part to a strong Marlies Janssens and Britt Herbots, the difference remained within limits. But the Belgians had no answer to all that offensive violence from Serbia.

Boskovic in particular played an impressive match. The 24-year-old was particularly dangerous on both the net and the serve line. The Tigers lost set 1 25-21.

The same scenario played out in the second set. The Belgians participated well, but the moment Serbia pressed the accelerator, the Yellow Tigers were gasping for breath. Serbia once again won the set 25-21.

In the third set the spring seemed to be broken for the Tigers. More and more mistakes crept into the game of our national volleyball women. But Serbia also made mistakes, so that the Belgians were not immediately counted out. In the end, the Yellow Tigers had to undergo the law of the strongest and also lost the third set 25-21.

The Yellow Tigers will be back in action tomorrow. At 5 pm they take on Russia, another tough customer. You can also watch that match live at Sporza, on TV we start on One, from 6 pm we continue on Canvas. The TV broadcast is of course also streamed.

“The result was not important, but the match was important”, coach Gert Vande Broek looks back on the lost match against Serbia. “It was absolutely not a practice match. I leave the room with a good feeling.”

“We played a very strong game against a very strong team. We play well every set and we even go up to 20 points. We were strong attacking and distributing the game, but there was perhaps too little service pressure to claim a set .”

“We served a little too weakly. We don’t really have that rhythm yet. But that got better in the course of the game. Let’s hope we can take that with us to the next games and then I go home with a very good feeling That poor service was immediately punished by Serbia and their good tempo balls. We couldn’t handle that physically.”

“Serbia is the best team in the world, but also the most sympathetic. It is a very modest team. There has been an incredibly good dynamic in that team for years. I have a lot of respect for those players on the field, but also next to the field.”

“You can feel that there is a perception around our team that we are a fighter team, which is very well connected and who keeps going until the last point. We did that today. And the opponent knows that.
