we prepare the red marker, it’s time to make circles on the calendar

Even if we have to wait another two months before the resumption of the NBA, we can already make a big schedule of matches not to be missed for this 2021-2022 edition. You will understand, it’s time to get out your calendar, your schedule or your TrashTalk diary and make circles.

To find the calendar analysis for each franchise, it’s right here.

We spend the time as we can before the return of our favorite league. After having analyzed the calendars of each other, we embark on a small global recap of the posters that should not be missed. Big shocks, reunions, confrontations between rookies, commemorations: some dates may have a very special flavor next season. As often, the NBA has decided to tease us a bit on the important moments of the season. A brief overview of the nights when there is no risk of sleeping.

# 1 – Opening night : the holidays are (finally) over! (October 19)

After long weeks of waiting, here we are again in front of our dear NBA. As usual, it’s a Tuesday that will mark the return of the Great League and the menu should be generous to celebrate. Bucks-Nets to start the festivities at 1:30 before a Lakers-Warriors to close the night (4h). Stars, revenge to take, duels always outstanding and especially the slab to see the orange ball, three months after the title of Giannis and his band. Obviously, the presentation of the ring and the banner that goes up will be unmissable events but it will also be necessary to go and play in stride. If they can, Kevin Durant and his Amigos will be happy to spoil the party.

# 2 – Evan Fournier makes his Knicks debut (October 20)

Just arrived in New York, Evan Fournier will be able to make his debut in his new garden: Madison Square Garden. As a symbol, he will start this new chapter facing his old team. Boston is indeed in town to challenge the Knicks and it will therefore be necessary to deal with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown from its premiere. A hell of a challenge ahead but a challenge that the native of Charenton will be happy to take up with his number 13. The love story can begin!

# 3 – First poster to celebrate 75 years of the NBA (November 1)

This is the novelty of this 2021-22 season: the NBA will celebrate its 75 years and, for this, it has positioned certain posters on key dates. For example, the meeting between the Raptors and the Knicks on November 1 will have a very special meaning. In fact, on November 1, 1946, the Knicks faced the… Toronto Huskies for the first regular season game in League history! In the same way, other meetings will be scheduled specifically to recall important moments in NBA history (100 Wilt points, Lakers winning streak etc…). As much to say to you that we will be entitled to tributes and to beautiful montages in black and white all the season.

# 4 – Jalen Green – Cade Cunningham: Birth of a Rivalry (November 10)

They haven’t even played an NBA game yet but the hype surrounding the duel between Jalen Green and Cade Cunningham is already at the top. The first Summer League clash laid the groundwork and the neo-Rocket’s statements shed some light on the two favorites for the Rookie of the Year Award (and also a little fuel on the fire).. It is on the side of Houston that it will be necessary to go to see this first round between the two nuggets before reunion in Detroit which promises to be particularly stormy. Something tells us that Michigan fans are preparing a special welcome for No. 2 of the 2021 Draft.

# 5 – War is declared in Los Angeles (December 4)

For the third year in a row, the two LA ogres will be armed to the teeth to go for the NBA title. We have never seen the local rivalry reach such a level and we sincerely hope that they will give us a show worthy of the talent present in each of the rosters. If the Clippers start at a disadvantage because of the long-term absence of Kawhi Leonard, we must not underestimate Paul George and his family, especially against a Lakers team who will undoubtedly need a little time to find its automatisms and its cruising speed. The Battle of Los Angeles Season 3, starting December on your screens.

# 6 – Christmas Day: 5 posters to make Christmas even more fun (December 25)

It’s a date expected by every NBA fan around the world. Christmas Day is the guarantee of having XXL posters and a good dose of entertainment. Little daddy Xmas Silver has spoiled us again this year with Knicks-Hawks (6 p.m.), Bucks-Celtics (8:30 p.m.), Suns-Warriors (11 p.m.), the highly anticipated Lakers-Nets (2 hours) but also Jazz-Mavs (4:30 a.m.). Once the turkey has been digested (or not), we will therefore have to stuff ourselves with another hearty menu to keep us going until the early hours of the morning. The last present we missed under the tree, certainly.

# 7 – Kyle Lowry Returns to Toronto: Prepare the Handkerchiefs (February 3)

The return of the boss, the captain, the leader of Toronto but with the jersey… of the Heat. Unsurprisingly, we should attend a standing ovation and a video montage to celebrate the one who spent nine seasons in the Dinos jersey, one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise. Regardless of the outcome of the game, the atmosphere should be festive and fans can celebrate the former darling of the Scotiabank Arena. Well, if he slams a buzzer beater on the last possession, Drake might have less of a smile on his face but that might be fun to watch.

# 8 – Suns – Bucks: how we meet! (February 10)

The remake of the last finals, it remains an unmissable in an NBA season. A little less than 7 months after the delivery of Larry O’Brien, Phoenix and Milwaukee will therefore meet for the first time. The main players are still there (just PJ Tucker will be missing) and the show should therefore be up to the task against a backdrop of revenge. Nothing says that these two teams will cross swords again at this stage of the competition but we could not fail to pay tribute to the two best teams from last season.

# 9 – MLK Day: The Art of Watching the NBA From Aperitif to Breakfast (February 17)

If you love watching the NBA but don’t necessarily want to set an alarm clock for 3 a.m., Martin Luther King Day is for you. On the program: 12 matches including 6 at French times! It starts at 6.30 p.m. with Boston-Pelicans and it continues without interruption until 4.30 a.m. and a tempting Lakers-Jazz. So we go on 12 hours of non-stop basketball! You will not take the sneakers out of the closet but we assure you that you will have to manage a real marathon. The experts know what we’re talking about.

# 10 – A last night of fireworks (April 10)?

With the Play-in that is maintained and the example of last season, we will be closely interested in this last night of the regular season. With an audience that should return in large numbers now, the home advantage will be much more disputed as well as the fight of spots 7 to 10. This year, the suspense remained intact until the last minute and we would ask for more with scenarios more improbable than the others. The saying of the NBA is “Where Amazing Happens”, right?

# BONUS – The what if of the season: the return of Damian Lillard to Portland… in a jersey other than that of the Blazers!

Yeah, we said we were putting in ten but, actually, we gave ourselves a little bonus for the end. We start with science fiction, SF for the regulars. As of now, Dame Dolla is warm in Oregon but we doubt he really enjoyed his team’s offseason. A new beginner coach, a workforce not particularly reinforced, a management whose communication is catastrophic: nothing to celebrate for the local superstar. As he turned 31 last month, Damian Lillard knows he can’t waste his best years playing the first round of the Playoffs. If no trade request has arrived on Neil Olshey’s desk so far, rumors are still growing around the All-Star point guard.. In the event that a trade were to be finalized (to Philly?), Lillard’s return to the Moda Center would inevitably be a must see. We keep that in the back of our heads, you never know.

We take our beautiful diary and note all the dates above. Obviously, we did not score everything and there will be many other reasons to cheer up this season in the NBA. Every match counts but not everyone will be entitled to the big red circle. Only 57 days to wait …
