‘We didn’t want to be disrespectful’: Israel’s Olympic baseball team apologize after being criticized for ‘malicious’ bed prank (VIDEO)

With few exceptions, each of the more than 10,000 athletes competing in this year’s Games have been given an almost all-cardboard bed to rest in as they race to Olympic glory.

Rumors quickly spread that officials had invested in these temporary beds in an attempt to discourage sex between athletes, helping to prevent any unwanted outbreaks of Covid-19 in the Olympic Village.

The athletes also received contraception upon arrival at their temporary accommodation in the Harumi waterfront district of Tokyo.

This chatter was quickly shut down by Olympic officials, who said the beds were designed to be made from fully recyclable materials so that they could be ethically disposed of after the event, rather than being an attempt to maintain chastity among competitors – and added that they can support around 440 lbs of weight.

Yet cardboard beds quickly became a tradition at these Tokyo Olympics, with this new generation of athletes only too happy to use them as props in all manner of social media content.

But the Israel team, which did just that, woke up to the heat of Olympic officials after uploading a video to TikTok to show how many members of their Olympic baseball team could stand on one of the those beds before he collapsed.

The response – as far as the Israeli athletes are concerned, anyway – was new, but it has led to a furious accusation that they are disrespecting their hosts by destroying the furniture allocated to them.

« We didn’t want to be disrespectful and just wanted to show how efficient and solid the beds are in the Olympic Village“Said baseball player Ben Wanger.

« We really love sleeping on these beds and think they are a great sustainable option for future Olympics.. »

Israel team manager Peter Kurz doubled down on his apologies, saying: “ The players have committed a childish prank. They apologized and expressed remorse for the malicious act. »

This censorship crowns an eventful week for the Israeli team, and comes just days after they won their first-ever Olympic match against Mexico.
