Vettel disqualification: Aston Martin ready to appeal to the FIA

But what disqualification and disqualification, in Aston Martin they are not willing to see Sebastian Vettel eliminated from the Hungarian GP. Nor to give up second place on the podium and the rich haul of points.

For this reason, despite the fact that last night the FIA announced that it had officially excluded the German, for having infringed the technical regulation that requires every F1 car to keep at the end of the race. at least one liter of fuel, today the Silverstone-based team has communicated to the race directors that it intends to appeal within the next 96 hours. And for this the car number 5 remained at the disposal of the FIA in the Budapest garage, and will be transported today to a French facility of the International Federation.

The reasons for Aston Martin

Not a stance, but an appeal motivated by a just cause: the 0.3 liters taken by the FIA Delegate Jo Bauer are not only the only ones present in the AMR21. According to the calculations of the team in fact there are an additional 1.44 liters, that they would find inside one of the lifting pumps, co-flowed there due to a problem with the left pump.

Thus the amount of petrol would result in a total of 1.74 liters, well beyond the liter that by regulation you must have at the end of each race. Level that if it were to be confirmed would bring the ranking back to natural I arrive at the Hungaroring to the checkered flag. And therefore with Ocon, Vettel e Hamilton in Top3, followed by Sainz, which would thus lose the third step. Even if at the moment the ranking remains sub-judges waiting for it to come pending a sentence on the Aston Martin appeal. As stated in the FIA press release: “The classification is provisional, subject to the outcome of the appeal presented by Aston Martin Cognizant F1 Team against decision no. 59 taken by the Stewards”.

Szafnauer: “Failure of the fuel pick-up pumps”

“We confirm our intention to appeal against the decision of the commissioners – said the team principal Szafnauer who confirmed everything–. We have 96 hours to assess the situation, and our intentions are to be able to recover the fuel that according to our calculations should still be in the tank. We haven’t disassembled the fuel pick-up pumps yet, but we found that they didn’t work.

The data we have available is provided by the sensor on the flow meter required by the FIA, which measures the amount of fuel used. We subtracted the petrol used in the race from that poured into the tank before the start and the result is that there should still be in the single-seater 1.74 liters. They are readily available data because they are provided by devices on which the International Federation operates, but obviously the everything will have to be verified”.
