Van Bommels VfL Wolfsburg challenges cup exclusion | Football

Wolfsburg won 3-1 against SC Preußen Münster earlier this month after extra time. Trainer Mark van Bommel had changed too often, six instead of five. The penal college of the German Football Association, after protest from SC Preußen Münster, converted the victory into a regular 2-0 win for the fourth division.

Wolfsburg was also excluded from the national cup tournament in 2004. It then drafted newcomer Marian Hristov, while he still had an open suspension from his previous club Kaiserslautern.

Van Bommel loses attacker Joao Victor to Al-Jazira, which plays in the United Arab Emirates. Victor, 27, has traveled to his new employer in Abu Dhabi, where he will be introduced this Tuesday. The Brazilian appeared in 68 games for Wolfsburg and was accurate nine times. Wolfsburg took over Victor from Austrian club Linzer ASK in 2019.
