“I recently tested positive for covid-19. Fortunately, I’m vaccinated, so I have only mild symptoms. But my test results are still positive, so I won’t be able to play at the US Open next week,” Kenin wrote on Twitter. “I want to dedicate the next few weeks to healing and preparing for the autumn tournaments,” added the tennis player, who also suffered a leg injury from Wimbledon.

“Not exactly the best news from Serena and me. I won’t be able to play at the US Open either. It’s a huge disappointment, I’ve had some leg problems all summer and I couldn’t get out of it,” said the two-time US Open winner and former world number one. Venus Williams in an Instagram message.

Kenin and Venus Williams have expanded the list of leading players who will miss the last grand slam of the season for health reasons. In addition to Serena Williams, Simona Halepová has already left, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and defending champion Dominic Thiem ended the season. Milos Raonic will not play in New York either.
