The United States is the overall champion Tokyo Olympics 2020 after their women’s volleyball team donated the gold medal.
Before the women’s volleyball final was held, the United States was already at the top of the standings, both had 38 gold, but were ahead of China in silver. It happened after the women’s basketball team and cyclist, Jennifer Valente won the gold medal on Sunday (8/8).
In the women’s final duel, the United States faced Brazil. In this duel against Brazil, the United States performed brilliantly and was able to end Brazil’s resistance in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14.
The United States’ victory over Brazil also saw the US women’s volleyball team win an Olympic gold medal for the first time.
An additional one gold from the women’s volleyball team made the United States collect 39 gold, 40 silver and 33 bronze.
The victory also locked the overall title for the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
China, which has been confirmed to have failed to become the overall champion, in the end also failed to add gold from the sport of boxing.
Li Qian lost to Lauren Price in the women’s middleweight final on Sunday (8/8).
Until this news was revealed, the United States still had a chance to add the last gold through the final in the super heavyweight. Richard Torrez Jr. will face Bakhodir Jalolov.
Meanwhile, China has no longer left athletes who competed in the final and have the opportunity to add medals.
