In the absence of world star Roger Federer, Switzerland is sure to have two Olympic medals in tennis.

Belinda Bencic moved into the final at the Summer Games in Tokyo in singles and doubles together with Viktorija Golubic. In the individual semi-finals, Bencic, who was twelfth in the world rankings, won 7: 6 (7: 2), 4: 6, 6: 3 against Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan. This means that Bencic will play in the final on Saturday against the former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova. In the second semi-final, the Czech surprisingly defeated the fourth-placed Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6: 3, 6: 1.

As in previous Grand Slam tournaments, there were numerous surprises in the women’s singles. The top favorites Ashleigh Barty from Australia and Naomi Osaka from Japan failed unexpectedly quickly.
