Two Belarusian coaches are deprived of their Olympic accreditation

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that it has revoked the accreditation of Artūrs Šimaks and Yuri Maisevičs and that they have left the Olympic Village.

The IOC said this week that it was investigating both coaches for their role in the Cimanouska case.

The IOC said both coaches “will be offered the opportunity to be heard”, but measures have been taken against them in the “interests of the well-being of Belarusian athletes in Tokyo”.

It has already been reported that the coaches of Cimanousku, who should have started at a distance of 200 meters on Monday, decided to urgently return to Minsk on Sunday.

The athlete previously announced in a video on the social network “Instagram” that the management of the team without her knowledge suddenly decided that she will have to start in the 4×400 meter relay race, in which two other Belarusian runners will not be able to participate due to insufficient doping tests. Cimanouska criticized the decision, asking why the mistakes made by sports officials should be blamed on others, and thus earning shame in the official media of Belarus for “lack of team spirit”.

On Sunday, she was ordered to stack her belongings to return to Minsk on a Turkish Airlines flight from Tokyo Haneda Airport. The Belarusian Olympic Committee later explained that this was done in connection with the doctors’ opinion about the athlete’s “emotional and mental state”, but the sprinter herself stated that the doctors had not spoken to her.

At the airport, the athlete refused to sit on the plane and turned to the police for help. She spent the night on Monday at an airport hotel, but arrived at the Polish embassy on Monday evening. After two nights at the embassy, Cimanouska flew from Tokyo Narita Airport to Vienna on Wednesday, but arrived in Poland on a Wednesday evening, which granted her a visa for humanitarian reasons.
