Trevor Lawrence answers the call

Four days after being identified as starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence showed great things in a 34-14 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in a preseason game presented at AT&T Stadium.

The very first player selected in the last NFL draft played three offensive streaks early in the game. During these, he completed 11 of the 12 passes he attempted for 193 yards. The Clemson Tigers product also found two of its receivers in the pay zone.

Obviously, the proof of confidence that head coach Urban Meyer has placed in him seems to have transformed Lawrence. In his two previous outings, the young prodigy was content to lead his team to a single placement in eight appearances on the field with the attack of the “Jags”.

As for the Cowboys, this last preparatory duel was mainly aimed at separating the pivots Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert. The two men fight for the position of number 2 behind Dak Prescott.

The former had four of his eight throws for just 16 yards, while the latter found the target 9 times on 16 attempts for 87 yards and a touchdown.

The Dolphins “greet Mary”

In a fourth down situation and 15 yards to go, with less than 90 seconds to play and a delay of 26 to 21, the Miami Dolphins attempted the famous pass of despair and it was finally Chris Myarick who caught a throw of 34 yards from Reid Sinnett to propel his team to a 29-26 victory over the Bengals in Cincinnati.

Sinnett finished the game with a passing rate of 66.6%, for 343 yards. Two of his throws were caught in the end zone and another was intercepted.

In the Bengals camp, quarterback Joe Burrow saw little action as he failed to pull off his only stint attempt.

Elsewhere in the NFL

In San Francisco, the 49ers racked up 242 rushing yards, while registering four majors that way, en route to a 34-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

In New York, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones took advantage of his team’s last preseason game to prove to his people that he has what it takes to play in the NFL, in a 22 to 20 against the Giants. Jones completed 10 of his 14 attempts for 156 yards, in addition to handing a ball for a major.
