Tony Finau remporte le Northern Trust en play-off

It has been 1,975 days since Tony Finau’s last victory on the PGA Tour, during which he has seen many of the top spots narrowly slipping away from him. The latest was at the Genesis Invitational and its play-off lost to Max Homa. We even began to confine Finau to the role of eternal second not having the mind to hold out when the win was reaching out to him.

The American silenced his critics this week by winning one of the most prestigious tournaments of the season, the Northern Trust. Starting two shots behind leaders Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith, Finau managed to catch up with a 65 (-6) card and notably a signed return of 3 birdies and 1 eagle for no bogey.

“An incredible feeling”

Leader at the clubhouse, he will be joined by Cameron Smith, author of two birdies on his last two holes. A play-off ensued which ended as the Australian sent his start out of bounds. “It’s an incredible feeling. I knew I had to do 20 cents par. It was my goal at the start of the day and I succeeded ”, reacted Finau.

In addition to the title, the latter won first place in the FedExCup two tournaments ahead and climbed to 9th place in the world rankings. As a reminder, the winner of the FedEx pocketed the tidy sum of $ 15 million (around € 12.7 million).
