Olympic champion Tom Daley knits in the stands – it’s his secret of success

Tom Daley combines his two passions at the Olympic Games: diving and knitting. For the British, knitting played a major role in his Olympic victory.
Tom Daley can be completely relaxed – the Briton has already won his long-awaited gold medal in diving at the Olympic Games. In synchronized jumping from the ten-meter tower, Daley and his jumping partner Matty Lee won the Olympic gold last Monday. Nobody can take that away from him, even if Daley is still hoping for a medal in the individual competition.
Accordingly, the 27-year-old can watch the other competitions in his sport with ease. On Sunday, Tom Daley watched the women jump from the three-meter board – although no British jumper was qualified there. The Olympic champion devoted himself to a very special hobby in the stands: knitting.
Tom Daley is a real knitting professional
In the midst of his teammates, Daley paid almost more attention to working with the needle than to the athletic performance of the female jumpers. Apparently the Briton was knitting a blanket with the Olympic rings, the writing GB and the British flag on it. A pink cap could also be seen.
Daley is anything but a beginner in this field, that was easy to see in the pictures. A look on the Internet shows how well he has actually mastered the art of knitting: Daley presents his work on his own Instagram account. There he let his followers know after the Olympic victory that he had also packed his gold medal very conscientiously – in a hand-knitted bag “so that it doesn’t get scratched”.
He could certainly become the point of contact for some other athletes from “Team GB”, after all, Great Britain has already won 33 medals in Tokyo so far. But knitting is not only a useful hobby for Daley after the win, it also plays an important role for him before the competition. According to Daley, his love of knitting “kept him sane” during the Olympic Games.
