The goal of improving Rio

Ruggero Vilnai, president of the Italian Paralympic Veneto Committee, launches its battle cry in view of the five-ring event. With a concrete hope, that of overcoming the Rio de Janeiro medal table in 2016, when the Venetian expedition won 11 medals, snatching applause from Italy and the world: Because of the pandemic, everything was more difficult – underlines Vilnai – but I can guarantee that we have heard the athletes and technicians and the enormous enthusiasm. We have 17 athletes from Veneto, with prominent athletes such as Bebe Vio and Francesca Porcellato. We have 250 Paralympic sports companies and 1,800 athletes. a percentage still too low, we need to improve. In Rio we took 11 medals, if we can equal this record we can surely be satisfied. And I am convinced that we will do even better.

The hopes of swimming

Great hopes also for Francesco Bettella, who will be at the start of the final of the 200 backstroke today: I felt him loaded and concentrated – explains his coach Moreno Daga – he, as you know, has a very serious disability due to a degenerative disease that also limits the possibilities of training. In any case, his hope and his will to get on the podium. I think he can do it, we are all with him. After the 200 backstroke, Bettella will return to the pool for the 50 backstroke meters on September 2nd, at 11.31 am.
