Ceccon, Martinenghi, Burdisso and Miressi close third behind the United States and Britain beating Russia by 5 cents
The adventure of Italian swimming ends with a bronze in the men’s 4×100 mixed relay Tokyo 2020 Olympics: the team made up of Thomas Ceccon, Nicolò Martinenghi, Federico Burdisso and Alessandro Miressi closes the final in third place behind the United States, who are giving themselves gold and world records, and Great Britain. Italy, which beats Russia by only 5 cents, thus closes with six medals in swimming.
Italy is also great in the last Olympic swimming competition staged at the Tokyo Acquatics Center: the men’s 4×100 mixed relay, in fact, confirms the excellent sensations of the semifinal by winning a precious bronze behind the super favorites United States and Great Britain. An excellent result arrived for only 5 cents: this, in fact, the gap from the fourth place of Russia, which remains so low from the podium. For Italy it is the sixth medal in swimming in Tokyo 2020.
The Azzurri, who arrived in the final with the best time, start strong, especially in the backstroke-breaststroke pairing, with Thomas Ceccon and Nicolò Martinenghi leading Italy to second place after the first two fractions, with the dominator in the breaststroke Adam Peaty who momentarily gives Great Britain the lead of the race. The United States, however, found the definitive advantage with the butterfly of an unrivaled Caeleb Dressel, fresh winner of the 50 meters freestyle individual (seventh Zazzeri), who overtook both Italy and the British represented by James Guy. The Americans complete the work with the free style of Zach Apple, which certifies a gold never really in question. And for the United States it ends in a great way: not only the victory, but also the new world record in 3’26 “78.
