This August 2, badminton smiled on Indonesian athletes with two new medals. Apriani Rahayu and Greysia Polii collect gold as a team while Anthony Ginting takes home the bronze medal.
A good day for Indonesia! Indonesian athletes took home two badminton medals, ending the medal split between China and Taiwan. In the women’s doubles category, Apriani Rahayu and Greysia Polii are sacred and received gold around their necks after a 2-0 victory against the Chinese pair who walk away with the silver (21-19 and 21-15). In the duel for third place, a 100% South Korean final is won by Kong Hee-yong and Kim So-young (21-10 and 21-17).
For men, it’s Anthony Ginting which offers a second medal for his delegation. The Indonesian defeated the Guatemalan Kevin Cordón 2-0 to collect bronze. A fairly balanced first set (21-18) then a second part illustrated by domination (21-11). It is the Danish Viktor Axelsen who touches the gold, opposed in the final to the Chinese Chen Long. A debate overflown with two sets won (21-15 and 21-12).
