“There was no intention to attack David Friio” assures Christophe Galtier

“It is normal that they take the time to analyze everything,” said Galtier of the disciplinary committee and the competitions committee. “But for me, my players won,” he said.

The meeting between Nice and Marseille was interrupted Sunday after 75 minutes, when a general fight broke out on the lawn, after bottles were thrown at the Marseillais Dimitri Payet. Nice then led 1-0.

About Pablo Fernandez: “If it was my deputy, I would do anything to defend him”

Galtier then returned to the images showing him making a gesture towards David Friio, the technical director of OM.
“When he arrived on the pitch, it had been a while since a lot of people were on the pitch. I told him it was better for everyone to come into the locker room, and I took him by the neck at the time for that. There was no intention to attack David Friio, ”he said.
“A minute later, we were in the hallway and we were talking to each other. Afterwards, with the images, we zoom in, pause, and the gesture becomes a slap, a punch, lots of things … ”he added.

Galtier also mentioned the case of Pablo Fernandez, assistant to Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli, suspended Wednesday as a precaution for hitting a Nice supporter who entered the lawn.

“Everyone saw his gesture. But if it was my deputy, I would do anything to defend him and find him extenuating circumstances. I would defend it … When there is a movement of this kind, there can be a lack of control and a bad analysis and one regrets it very quickly ”, he estimated.

“Sport must quickly resume. We cannot sanction drastically. There are people who do certain activities that are forbidden and who are forgiven for much more serious things, ”concluded the Aiglons coach.
