In the world of tennis there are many young players who want to make the leap to join large-scale professional tournaments and one of them is the neighbor of Morón Sofia Garcia, who at age 17 represents SITAS in interclub tournaments and also competes at the national level.

Sofía, who in her childhood years was N°1 In the U-12 and U-14 category at the national level, she was among the top three Argentine U-16 players last year and also represented Argentina in two South American tournaments in 2015 and 2017. Last week won a U-18 tournament organized by the AAT that took place at SITAS, almost undeterred: in the final he won with a forceful double 6-1 to Mia Obeid.

Tennis for me is a job, it is what I chose to do and I like it a lot. My goal would be to be able to win a WTA point this year, it would be a dream, although it is complicated by the pandemic,” acknowledges the promise of the West.

Daughter of José María García, a defender who went through several football clubs of promotion such as Caseros students e Ituzaingó, Sofía approached the world of tennis at the age of 8, after having tried various sports.

“I did handball, hockey, swimming and one day my grandmother told me that she would like me to try tennis. I started playing in Open Sky, a little field that was about 10 blocks from home and that no longer exists today. SITAS At 12 and I never left again, it is a club with which I feel very identified and in which I have my friends, “he details.

In her beginnings in the sport of the yellow ball there was a very market player who stood out and that Sofía had as an idol: Maria Sharapova. “I loved it, I copied everything: how she fixed her hair and the way she looked at the racket, although I was never screaming on the court like her,” she recalls.

As for his current references, he mentions, from the women’s circuit, the Romanian Simona Halep, current number 3 in the world, although your ultimate idol has always been Roger Federer: “Everything he does and the simplicity with which he plays is incredible. He makes what is difficult seem easy,” he analyzes.

Regarding her personal game, Sofía is right-handed, hits the backhand with two hands and usually has an offensive game: “I like go out to find the point and when I have to put the ball in, I bet it is deep or with effect, something that the rival cannot take the initiative. In order to improve in the world of tennis, you have to train constantly and the neighbor from Morón has a demanding daily routine: she gets up at 7.30 and goes to SITAS, where from 9 to 10 she does a gym, from 10 to 12 she practices tennis. , from 15 to 17 again tennis and from 17 to 18 physical: “We also usually go jogging in the green spaces of the club, which is very large and has several,” explains Sofía.

The neighbor of Morón, who is going through her second year as a U-18 youth, does not hesitate when asked what is the next step she would like to take: “My idea is to insert myself in the professional circuit, but for that you have to travel and also complicates the pandemic. Currently together with my coach Christian Jaworsky we are looking for sponsors to see how to do it. ”
