Xi’an News Network News The 16th Paralympic Games will be held in Tokyo, Japan from August 24 to September 5. The Chinese delegation sent a total of 251 athletes to compete in 20 major events and 341 minor events. According to the relevant person in charge of the Xi’an Disabled Persons’ Federation, Dong Feixia and Wu Chunyan of our city will participate in the women’s discus and women’s archery competitions respectively.

The Chinese delegation has a total of 437 people

The Chinese delegation for the 16th Paralympic Games established on the 17th included 437 people, including 251 athletes, and 186 coaches, staff, and competition support staff. The average age of the athletes is 27.5 years, the oldest is 56-year-old table tennis player Zhao Ping, and the youngest is 16-year-old swimmer Jiang Yuyan.

The goal of the Chinese delegation for this Paralympic Games is to participate safely, show spirit, strive for success, pass on friendship, and achieve both sports performance and spiritual civilization. Chinese players will participate in archery, track and field, boccia, badminton, kayaking, cycling, blind judo, weightlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, and blind football 20 major events and 341 minor events, including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and blind goalball, are the most important events for my country to participate in the overseas Paralympics. In addition, in the badminton and taekwondo events that entered the Paralympic Games for the first time, the Chinese delegation also achieved team participation.

11 players from Shaanxi participated in the competition

The Chinese delegation athletes participating in the Paralympic Games came from 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country, including 11 athletes from our province, namely Zhang Li, Cheng Jiao, Zhai Xiang, Peng Weinan, Wu Chunyan, Wang Sijun, Hu Huizi, and Dong Feixia , Gao Fang, Dai Yunqiang and Song Lei, they have achieved outstanding results in the domestic and foreign competitions in the past.

Among them, Zhang Li and Cheng Jiao will participate in swimming competitions. Zhang Li won the gold medal at the last Paralympic Games. Cheng Jiao won the championship and broke the world record in 2017 when he participated in the World Championships. Zhai Xiang, who was selected to the National Disabled Table Tennis Team in 2013, won the team gold medal in cooperation with his teammates at the last Paralympic Games. Peng Weinan won the men’s singles and team double champions at the 2019 Disabled Table Tennis Asian Championships. Wu Chunyan and Wang Sijun, who participated in the archery event, are also “successful.” Wu Chunyan won one gold and one silver in the last Paralympic Games. Wang Sijun also won multiple championships in the National Paralympic Games and National Championships. Among the 4 athletes participating in the track and field events, Dong Feixia was the gold medalist of the women’s discus throw at the last Paralympic Games, Gao Fang won the 100m champion at the 2019 Track and Field Championships, and Song Lei won the 5000m champion at the National Paralympic Games in 2019. Dai Yunqiang won the gold medal in the wheelchair 400m race at the 2015 National Paralympic Games. Hu Huizi, 20 years old this year, will participate in a seated volleyball competition. He has been on the highest podium at the 2019 National Paralympic Games.

Xi’an players strive for success

Among these 11 players, Dong Feixia and Wu Chunyan were sent by the Xi’an Disabled Persons’ Federation. Dong Feixia was born in Zhaizi Village, Zhongnan Town, Zhouzhi County in 1989. She was paralyzed in her lower limbs when she was 1 year old. In 2004, by chance, Dong Feixia entered the throwing group training of the Shaanxi Paralympic Sports Center track and field team, and joined the national team four years later. Since 2010, Dong Feixia has started her own way to win gold, and has won the Paralympic Games, World Wheelchair Games, Asian Paralympics, National Paralympic Games and other domestic and foreign championships.

29-year-old Wu Chunyan was born in Dongmaying Village, Ganting Town, Huyi District. An accidental high fever in her childhood left her disabled for life. At the age of 14, Wu Chunyan began to participate in sports training for the disabled. However, from the initial wheelchair racing to the later throwing events, she failed to achieve good results. Fortunately, Wu Chunyan, who did not give up, gradually started her own brilliant sports career after changing her archery practice in 2012 and won many championships including the Paralympic Games and the World Paralympic Championships.

In order to prepare for the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Dong Feixia has been training in Nanjing since last year. In an interview on the 18th, she said: “Due to the epidemic, this competition experience is not the same as before. First of all, we will ensure safe competition. On this basis, strive to achieve good results and win honors for the motherland and hometown.”
