Tennis in the netball club :: Successful game day after the summer break: First NBV men achieve an important victory

Velbert, August 16, 2021. During the summer break, the netball players apparently didn’t put their clubs aside for long, but continued to train hard. Because on the first day of the match, which is still in the summer holidays, numerous NBV teams were able to score points for their club.
The first NBV men achieved a very important victory in the fight against looming relegation in the Lower Rhine League at MTV Kahlenberg. At positions one and two, however, Louis Kaun and Fyn Franke had to admit defeat to the very strong Dutch reinforcements of the Kahlenberger. Kaun lost his individual with 3: 6, 2: 6, Franke with 1: 6, 1: 6.

NBV head coach Mark Joachim delivered a high-class match with the third opposing Dutchman in third place. Joachim won the first set 7: 5, but lost 4: 6 in the second round. In the tie break match, the netball player picked up the pace again and won 10: 4.

The only Dutchman in the NBV team, Tim van den Dijssel, won his match with aplomb 6: 2, 6: 3.
Oliver Bodenröder got the upper hand in a contested nerve thriller with 7: 5, 1: 6 and 13:11. In sixth position, Niclas Schmitz ensured another point with a safe 6: 2, 6: 2 victory for a 4: 2 lead after the singles.

Since the three Dutch players can play very well in doubles, the goal for the netball players was to score one point for the overall victory. “We decided on the 7-man line-up and made the third double really strong,” explains Louis Kaun, who is in first position. With this strategy, Mark Joachim and Tim van den Dijssel were able to serve in the third double. The plan worked, because the Kahlenberger had strengthened the first two doubles with the Dutch and placed fifth and sixth in the third double. Joachim and van den Dijssel took this chance and won with 6: 1 and 6: 0. The other two doubles went to the Kahlenberger as expected, but the NBV men were able to take the well-deserved 5: 4 overall victory.

“There are four more games to come, three of them at home on the Kostenberg. So we still have a chance to keep the class, ”said Louis Kaun confidently.

With the first women, a whole package of unfortunate circumstances ultimately led the netball players to cancel their home game in the Lower Rhine League against TC Rheinstadion and suffer a 9-0 defeat. With several injuries, quarantine requirements, other tournament obligations and the date in the summer vacation, there were numerous reasons why the women were unable to put together a full and adequate team on the previous match day. “That is of course a shame, but unfortunately there was nothing to be changed,” said team manager Thomas Ihlo. The women’s team still has two upcoming games, one more win could probably be enough to keep them up.

With their second win in the second game, the men 50 were able to take the lead in the second league. At SV Budberg, the netballers made everything clear in the individual: With the victories of Mark Höhfeld (6: 2, 6: 2), Joost van der Marel (6: 4, 4: 6, 10: 5), Mike Kessels ( 6: 2, 6: 4), Axel Pickshaus (6: 2, 6: 1) and Oliver Franke (7: 6, 6: 2) the team has already scored five victory points. The doubles went to SV Budberg without a fight for a 5-4 victory for the NBV.

The third NBV women in district class B were able to achieve a runaway victory. The team won 9-0 at home on the Kostenberg against BG Gräfrath. In the singles, Sunny Ihlo scored 6: 1, 6: 2, Liv Ihlo 6: 4, 6: 2, Jana Schübbe 6: 0, 6: 0, Sina Eick 6: 1, 6: 1, Leoni Guska with 6: 3, 6: 1 and Jolin Schmidt-Sicking with 6: 1, 6: 1. The doubles also went clearly to the NBV women: Sunny and Liv Ihlo 6: 0, 6: 4, Schübbe and Schmidt-Sicking 6: 3, 6: 1, Maria Nagel and Annabelle Rother 6: 1, 6: 0. Team captain Leoni Guska is happy about the fourth win in the fourth game: “In the last game against Hardt TC we can make the promotion clear with a win.”

For several youth teams of the netball club, the re-entry after the summer break went well:
The U15 boys secured a sovereign 6-0 victory in the home game against GW Elberfeld in the district league. The team had to do without their number one, Ilian Mechbal, who was taking part in a tournament. With Noah Häntzschel and Lucian Weelborg, two players from the second U15 team helped out. Len Bachmann won in first place 6: 3, 6: 0. Behind them, Marlon Eick won 6: 4, 6: 2, Noah Häntzschel 7: 5, 4: 6, 10: 3 and Lucian Weelborg 6: 1, 6: 2. Bachmann and Eick won their doubles 6: 4, 6: 0, Häntzschel and Weelborg won 6: 4, 6: 4 to 6: 0 overall victory.
With 4: 2 the U18 boys prevailed in the district league away from the Solingen TC 02. The points were delivered by Anton Nagel with 7: 5, 6: 2, Felix Heck with 6: 2, 3: 6 and 10: 8 and Till Schneider with 6: 0, 6: 3 in the singles. Felix Heck and Till Schneider scored another goal in doubles with 6: 2, 2: 6 and 10: 4 in the first doubles.

And the U 15 boys were also able to top the table in District Class C with a 5: 1 home win against Merscheider TV.

“Except for the unfortunate defeat of the first women, it was a very successful game day after the summer break,” said NBV sports warden Mark Höhfeld. Due to the corona-related later start of the media game season, there are now several weeks of competition ahead of the teams. The last day of the season is September 26th.
