Sergi Canos became the star of Brentford’s victory against Arsenal. The winding road traversed by Barcelona academy products to become a mainstay of Brentford.

Brentford made a surprise in the 2021/2022 Premier League opener. The Bee was able to beat Arsenal 2-0 at Bentford Community Stadium in the Premier League’s opening match, Saturday (14/8/2021) early morning WIB. Two Brentford winning goals were born from Sergi Canos in the 22nd minute and Christian Norgaard in the 73rd minute.

Brentford’s opener against Arsenal was the main star in this match. The Spaniard scored after stabbing from the left before firing a shot at the near post that Brend Leno failed to block. Canos set a record for being Brentford’s first goalscorer in the Premier League.

Not only being able to score goals, Canos’ movement, especially on the right wing, was so troublesome for Arsenal players. Quoted from WhoScored, the 24-year-old winger was able to score three shots, one key pass and seven tackles and two interceptions in the match against Arsenal.

Canos is so happy with this nick. He dedicated this historic goal to his family both watching live at the stadium and those in Spain.

“This is an incredible moment – fantastic for me and my family who came all the way from Spain and all my other family in Spain watching the game. For the club, this is a step forward,” Canos said, quoted by the BBC.

Canos did have a career that went up and down from Spain before being moored at Brentford. This Nules man had a talent that stood out from his childhood.

He became the target of many major Spanish club academies when he was young. Canos started his academy career at Espanyol at the age of 12. A year later, he crossed over to Barcelona’s academy, La Masia.

At La Masia Canos’ talent was honed. However, Canos felt the competition to penetrate the Barcelona first team at that time was too heavy.

He made a bold decision by joining Liverpool in 2015 at the age of 16. Canos left for Liverpool with absolutely no command of English.

While on loan at Brentford, Canos made just one appearance for Liverpool before being sold to Norwich City in 2016. He returned to Brentford in 2017 this time on a permanent basis after being bought from Norwich.

At Brentford, which at that time was still struggling in the Championship Division, Canos returned to his dream to appear regularly in the highest caste. Expectations were heavy at Liverpool because he didn’t have the mentality to break into the first team.

“When I came to Norwich and Brentford, I saw the Premier League so far, because I didn’t have the right mentality,” Canos said.

But now it is starting to materialize thanks to his hard struggle for three years at Brentford. He returned to the Premier League immediately able to score goals.
