Berlin (AP) – Suat Serdar has ticked off the Bundesliga relegation with FC Schalke 04 and wants to recommend himself to national coach Hansi Flick through performance at Hertha BSC. «I want to prove myself in the club first. But I’m optimistic that I can get back into the national team, ”said the 24-year-old in a“ kicker ”interview (Monday). The midfielder has played four international matches so far, most recently ex-national coach Joachim Löw offered him in the 1-1 draw against Spain in the Nations League in September 2020. Then the professional got out of focus due to injuries and the Schalke crisis.

With the Berlin Bundesliga club, Serdar should also look up again. However, he avoids a clear sporting requirement for Hertha, which was disappointing in the previous season. “We haven’t yet set a specific goal in the team. But nobody here wants to play a season like the last one. We don’t want anything to do with the relegation battle, ”said Serdar.

One reason for his move to the capital was the new sports director Fredi Bobic. “In fact, I also had other offers. But I had very good conversations with those in charge at Hertha. Above all, Fredi Bobic showed me which way the club wants to go, ”said the 24-year-old.
