Saint-Georges is committed to building the required infrastructure

MUNICIPAL. Saint-Georges is committed to building the infrastructure listed in the technical file for the hosting of the Quebec Games in 2025.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the board meeting on August 9. However, his commitment is conditional on obtaining sports competition. Remember that Trois-Rivières is also in the race to present the event.

Among the infrastructures mentioned in the resolution, there is a baseball field – that of the Lacroix-Dutil sports center does not meet the standards of the Quebec Games – structures to hold basketball and indoor volleyball games, beach volleyball courts, a BMX track.

“It would be an important legacy for the community,” said Councilor Esther Fortin, recalling that obtaining the Games comes with a sum of $ 5 million to finance the necessary infrastructure.

The mayor, Claude Morin, has also assured that this sum would be sufficient to pay for everything. “With this line of credit, we will be able to pay everything we need,” he said.

He also highlighted the collaboration of the Beauce-Etchemin School Services Center (CSSBE) and Cégep Beauce-Appalaches. “We would be able to centralize all the administration in one or almost one place. It’s a plus for us, ”said Mr. Morin.

He also specified that in addition to the elements indicated above, there will be the athletics track to do, but that the CSSBE was committed to it.

Next steps

At the end of the meeting, Councilor Serge Thomassin said that the city’s technical sheets will be submitted on August 25. “We will have a visit from the representatives of the Quebec Games on September 16 and 17 to come and check the infrastructure,” he continued.

The City will then have to send its final report in August 2022. It will know whether or not it is chosen in the fall of 2022.
