Rockies beat Arrieta, in his debut with Padres

DENVER (AP) – The Colorado Rockies beat Jake Arrieta, who also left injured in the game that marked his debut with the San Diego Padres, who lost 7-5 on Wednesday night.

CJ Cron had two hits and three runs, while Trevor Story homered for the Rockies, who scored five runs in 3 1/3 innings off Arrieta, before he left with a left hamstring condition. .

Arrieta (5-12) came to the Padres on Monday after being released by the Chicago Cubs. He allowed seven hits and allowed his ERA to deteriorate to 7.13 as he received a solo homer from Dom Nunez before grabbing his thigh and leaving the game.

Wil Myers hit a pair of home runs for ailing San Diego. The Padres have lost seven of eight games but still have a game-and-a-half advantage over Cincinnati in the bid for the second wild-card spot to the National League playoffs.

The Rockies took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a two-run double by Cron and a single by Ryan McMahon.

Ben Bowden (2-2) allowed one run in one inning. Daniel Bard resolved the ninth for his 20th save in 26 chances.

For the Padres, the Dominicans Fernando Tatis 4-0, Machado 5-1 with an RBI.

For the Rockies, the Venezuelan Carlos González 1-0.
