Peacock orders a series based on the film, from the creator of The Good Place

The TV adaptation, curated by Michael Schur, will reimagine the story of which Kevin Costner was the protagonist on the big screen.

It was a voice that suggested it to Peacock? Certainly the streaming video service of NBCUniversal has clear ideas, since it has ordered directly – without going through the pilot episode – a TV series based on the 1989 film The man of dreams (in original Fields of Dreams). The TV adaptation will be able to count on a high-level screenwriter, since it bears the signature of Michael Schur, former creator of successful series such as The Good Place e Parks and Recreation.

The man of dreams: The first details on the Peacock TV series

In the Oscar-nominated film Kevin Costner He played an Iowa farmer building a baseball outfit on his property after hearing a mysterious voice prompting him to do so. According to the official description, the TV series – which like the film will be based on the book Shoeless Joe by WP Kinsella – will own many of the elements that made the film directed by Phil Alden Robinson so beloved and timeless: family, baseball, Iowa and magic. Schur will write the script and executive produce the project alongside David Miner (who worked with him on Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and the producer of the original film Lawrence Gordon.

The legacy of the man of dreams over the years

“During the years The man of dreams it remained a fan favorite, keeping the place it deserved in history, “he said Lisa Katz, president of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “It’s extravagant but also down to earth, and Mike Schur excels at that. We can’t wait to bring a new version of this classic to Peacock,” he added. Effectively in the United States the film is experiencing a new popularity thanks to a baseball game that saw the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox compete for the first time in Dyersville, Iowa (the field where the film was shot). The sporting event, which aired on FOX last week, recorded record ratings becoming – according to Nielsen – the most watched Major League Baseball game since 2005.
