Tokyo (SID) – Judo twins Carmen and Ramona Brussig experienced a bitter disappointment at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. After the sisters had previously won a medal from a total of nine participations, both of them drive home from Japan without any precious metal. Ramona missed the last chance in the class up to 52 kg, she lost the fight for bronze against the Ukrainian Natalija Nikolajtschik after less than a minute through Ippon.

“It just wasn’t possible anymore,” said Ramona: “Of course it’s disappointing. But it wasn’t a bad day.” Her sister Carmen had previously failed in the starting class up to 48 kg. The 44-year-old lost her first fight against Viktorija Potapova (Russian Paralympic Committee) before she lost to Ecem Tasin from Turkey.

Ramona had lost her semifinals in the Nippon Budokan against Priscilla Gagne from Canada after a sovereign opening win against the Brazilian Karla Cardoso. The Brussig sisters won gold in London in 2012, and in Rio in 2016 they won silver in just a few minutes. The Tokyo games were her final career highlight: “There are no more games. Maybe a smaller tournament like an EM, but no Paralympics,” said Ramona Brussig on ARD.
