Outstanding performance by Sebastián Muñoz in Olympic golf | THE UNIVERSAL

Colombian Sebastián Muñoz closed his presence in golf at the Tokyo Olympics with a great performance.

The Bogotano maintained a good performance during the four days of golf, which allowed him to play a tiebreaker against seven rivals.

Muñoz finished that round with 15 strokes under par and agreed to a playoff in which the last position on the podium was defined.

The gold went to the American Xander Schauffele, with 18 under par, and the silver went to Rory Sabbatini, from Slovakia, with a -17 card.

The playoff for the bronze began at hole 18, in which Muñoz made the par and two golfers were eliminated.

The five who continued in battle went on to hole 10. There the man from Bogotá completed the par, as did all the competitors, and the dispute remained alive.

The group continued through the 11th hole, par 4, in which Muñoz ran out of options when closing with a buggy. The Chilean Guillermo Pereira and the Irish Rory McIlroy closed with par, while the American Collin Morikawa and the Chinese Pan Cheng-tsung got birdie and advanced to dispute the medal, again on the 18th hole.

Thus, in the tiebreaker, Muñoz was left with an Olympic diploma and was not enough to hang the bronze medal, but his performance in his first attendance at a fair is assumed as a historical fact for Colombia in this sport, which in Tokyo had its fourth appearance at the Olympic Games after those of 1900, 1904 and 2016.
