Author of a 65 (-5) card on Friday, Dean Burmester found himself 11 strokes below par. Winner twice on the European circuit – the last in May in Tenerife -, the 32-year-old South African is one length ahead of the Belgian Thomas Detry (-5 Friday) and the Englishman Andy Sullivan (-4 in this second day).
James Morrison, who had equaled the course record Thursday (60, or -10), meanwhile fell into line. The Englishman, still in the lead after 8 holes at -12, fell for the return: he committed five bogeys and a double bogey on the last nine holes to end the day at +4! He finds himself 5 shots from the new leader.
A first, finally
The 13th attempt was therefore the right one for Raphaël de Sousa, who had failed to pass the cut during his first 12 appearances on the Haut-Plateau. The Genevan returned a nice card of 66 (-4) on Friday after having missed his deal on the first day (+3).
With -1, Raphaël de Sousa is in 60th place. He is not even the best Helvetian: the amateur Ronan Kleu – who cannot claim “prize money” because of his status – is 46th, one step ahead of the Genevan. This is the first time in eight years that two Swiss have passed the cut in Crans-Montana.
The four other Swiss entered – the professional Mathias Eggenberger as well as the amateurs Cédric Gugler, Max Schliesing and Mauro Gilardi – logically failed after two of the four laps. Among the stars present in Valais, only the winner of the 2015 edition Danny Willett suffered the same fate.
