Olympic day eight in Tokyo: bronze sheen and some disappointments

The 100 meter final for women in athletics will take place without German participation. For Alexandra Burghardt, the German champion from Upper Bavaria, the semifinals ended as well as Tatjana Pinto. Burghardt was even a hundredth faster than in the lead with 11.07 seconds, but was only fourth in her run.

Pinto came in seventh in her semifinals with 11.35 seconds. In Jamaica’s triple victory, Elaine Thompson-Herah won the gold medal in a strong 10.61 seconds ahead of Shelly-Ann Fraser Price (10.74) and Shericka Jackson (10.76).

The 800-meter runner Katharina Trost also clearly missed the finals. The 26-year-old from Munich did not get past eighth place in her semifinals in 2: 02.14 minutes. Her club colleague Christina Hering was already eliminated on Friday in the preliminary run. The 19-year-old American Athing Mu was the fastest in the medal decision on Tuesday (02.25 p.m. CEST) in 1: 58.07 minutes.

  • One round further is the beach volleyball duo Clemens Wickler / Julius Thole. The Hamburg Thole and the Starnberg Wickler won their last group game against the Japanese Katsuhiro Shiratori / Yusuke Ishijima 2-0 (21:16, 21:11) and are in the round of 16. It is not yet clear who they will play against in the knockout round.
