The Saints held off the Jaguars’ comeback and won 23-21 Monday night, to complete week two of the NFL preseason schedule.

For the Saints of New Orleans, the stakes were high as we seek to determine who will be Drew Brees’ successor. The battle between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill for the starting quarterback position was therefore one to watch.

Winston got the start and threw a touchdown pass on his first offensive streak to second-year Marquez Callaway.

He did it again a little later and this time Callaway made the one-handed catch to make it 14-0.

In the end, Winston completed 9 of his 10 pass attempts for gains of 123 yards and two touchdowns on 43 and 29 yards, against no interceptions.

Taysom Hill took over in the third quarter. He also had his say in the win with a 13-yard pass to Lil’Jordan Humphrey for the touchdown.

It was much more difficult for Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who only collected 23 passing yards in the first quarter. He finally amassed 113 yards through the air in the first half as the offense generated only one field goal in his presence.

It was a sixth straight loss for the Jags in a preseason game.

Saints tight end Adam Trautman, who was transported off the field by cart, will have to take a magnetic resonance imaging test on one foot although x-rays taken on Monday night revealed nothing.

In the other clan, rookie Travis Etienne injured his foot. He will undergo extensive testing and end up on the sidelines indefinitely.
