Rizzo is the fourth Yankees player to be sidelined due to COVID-19 in the past week, joining pitchers Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery in quarantine, as well as wide receiver Gary Sanchez.

The news came after the Yankees’ 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night, manager Aaron Boone said. Rizzo was 0-for-4 in this game.

The Yankees acquired Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs on July 29 and he made his debut with the team the next day in Miami. In nine games with the Yankees, he’s averaged .281 with three homers and six RBIs.

Boone said Rizzo was feeling symptoms of the coronavirus, but was doing well.

Cole tested positive on Monday and Montgomery on Tuesday, while Sanchez’s name was added to the list of players unavailable due to COVID on Thursday. Boone said all three are feeling better.

The Yankees outbreak comes after a six-game trip against the Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins in Florida, where COVID-19 cases are on the rise.

At least 85% of Yankees players are vaccinated, which has allowed them to cut back on measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Rizzo, who has already beaten cancer, said in June he was not vaccinated. Boone declined to comment on the vaccination status of any particular player.

To replace Rizzo in their roster, the Yankees removed Luke Voit name from the injured list. Voir has been limited to 29 games this season due to knee and oblique muscle injuries. He’s averaging .241 with three home runs and 11 RBIs.

Since the All-Star break, outfielder Aaron Judge, third baseman Gio Urshela, wide receiver Kyle Higashioka and relievers Wandy Peralta and Jonathan Loaisiga have also tested positive for COVID-19.
