NBA Summer League: Scottie Barnes wieder stark

Scottie Barnes led the Toronto Raptors to another win, but it turned out to be dramatic in the end against the strong Charlotte Hornets. Cade Cunningham sits out against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Atlanta Hawks (2-2) – Miami Heat (2-2) 94:90

Points: Skylar Mays (26) – Max Strus (24)

Rebounds: Jalen Johnson (7) – DeJon Jarreau (8)

Assists: Skylar Mays (9) – DeJon Jarreau (9)

Jalen Johnson was long considered a top 10 pick, but after prematurely ending his college season with Duke, the forward fell on the boards and ended up in 20th position with the Hawks. Against Miami, the rookie put up 25 points and 7 rebounds and also hit three of his six threesomes.

But the man of the game was Skylar Mays, who was only allowed to start on point guard because Sharife Cooper, who had been convincing so far, had to be out for a short time due to the corona protocol. The 23-year-old scored 26 points, hit all of his 10 free throws and also played 9 assists. Atlanta finished the game on a 13-2 run which secured victory.

On the heat side, Max Strus (24) sank six threes again, while center Ömer Yurtseven had 21 points and 7 rebounds.

Indiana Pacers (2-2) – Oklahoma City Thunder (1-3) 95:61

Points: Chris Duarte (19) – Jaylen Hoard (16)

Rebounds: Cassius Stanley, Amida Brimah (je 6) – Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (10)

Assists: Chris Duarte, Keifer Sykes (je 4) – Theo Maledon (6)

A clear story for the Pacers, for whom # 13 pick Chris Duarte again acted properly and sank three of his four triples on his 19 points.

OKC again waived the first round picks Josh Giddey and Tre Mann, but second round pick Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (13, 10 rebounds) put on a double-double again. Oscar da Silva (3, 1/6 FG), on the other hand, had no luck at throwing, the RIESEN Ludwigsburg player grabbed 8 boards, 3 of which were offensive.

Charlotte Hornets (0-4) – Toronto Raptors (3-1) 79:80

Points: James Bouknight (14) – Scottie Barnes (23)

Rebounds: Kai Jones (16) – Malachi Flynn (10)

Assists: Grant Riller (7) – Malachi Flynn (7)

Scottie Barnes may also be offense, against the Hornets the number 4 pick was the top scorer and equalized the game with a dunk 20 seconds before the end. Pick from the second round Dalano Banton (7) put Toronto in the lead from the line before Charlotte Xavier Sneed missed both free throws with one second to go, leaving Charlotte without a win.

The highlight of the game was Precious Achiuwa (18, 6 rebounds) in the second quarter when he unpacked a nasty poster dunk about Scottie Lewis in transition. Another second-year professional was also able to convince, namely point guard Malachi Flynn, who at least got close to a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.
