NBA, Dinwiddie on Nets season: “We would have won the championship without injuries”

Despite the presence of three superstars of the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets failed to secure an NBA title during these playoffs. Steve Nash’s team has in fact folded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 7 races, also due to the absence of Irving for a good part of the series and the status of Harden, evidently conditioned by an injury remedied during the regular season.

Another often overlooked lack was also that of Spencer Dinwiddie, now at the Washington Wizards. The guard (who basically skipped all season this year) discussed the expectations of the New Yorkers and the reasons that led to the elimination against the Bucks during the Conference semifinals. These are Dinwiddie’s statements, issued to The Jump (US telecast):

We had KD, probably one of the best scorers of all time, Harden, who had one of the best seasons ever from an offensive and playmaking point of view, and Kyrie, one of the most technical players ever. I too would have been able to adapt to different roles and play at a high level offensively.

I have no doubts, we would have won the championship without the injuries this year. It just wasn’t meant to be.

While Washington’s new signing is probably not entirely wrong, it’s important not to take credit from the success of the Milwaukee Bucks. Injuries are part of sport, and hiding behind them certainly doesn’t make a good impression.
